THE 7TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEUROSCIENCE, NEUROLOGY, AND PSYCHIATRY 2024

Sumatera Utara

Medan, ID

July 6, 2024 – July 7, 2024

Introduction

For more than 2000 years in the West, neurology and psychiatry were considered part of one unified branch of medicine, often called neuropsychiatry. Charcot, Freud, Jackson, Bleuler, among many others, thought in terms of a unified study of the brain and mind, regardless of specific clinical and research interests. However, during the 20th century, a schism emerged as each of these fields went their own way. Neurologists focused on brain disorders with cognitive and behavioral abnormalities that were also accompanied by somatic signs - stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, and so on - while psychiatrists focused on mood and thought disorders that were not accompanied by physical signs found on neurological examination of the motor and sensory systems - schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders, and so on.

Most people affected by mental and neurological disorders do not have access to a wide range of evidence-based interventions that can prevent and treat these disorders, resulting in a huge treatment gap. This problem is not just limited to mental and neurological disorders as cost-effective interventions in other health sectors are inadequately available and underutilized. De Savigny and Adams have mentioned, "evidence-based interventions often fail to achieve their goals, not because of inherent deficiencies in the intervention itself, but because of the unpredictable behavior of the system around it".

Because of the enormous increase in neurobiological knowledge in recent years, and the growing number of disorders (including those mentioned above) that were once thought to be psychopathological but are now known to be neuropathological, some neurologists may cling to the view that their specialty has now emerged alone as the queen of medical science. Neurologists and psychiatrists must have a fairly broad perspective, as the domains of intentional behavior and intentionality (final causation) are brain/mind functions that are no less important than sensory perception and movement. Clearly, the education of future generations of neurologists and psychiatrists should be grounded in neuroscience, but should also be focused on those dimensions of professional activity that essentially define the work of medical doctors from the neck to the head.

THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEUROSCIENCE, NEUROLOGY, AND PSYCHIATRY 2023

Sumatera Utara

Medan, ID

May 18, 2023 – May 23, 2023

Introduction

Homeostasis is upset by stress, which also triggers an adaptive reaction that shields an organism from harm. High allostatic load, on the other hand, might result from excessive stress or stress during a sensitive time, which eventually promotes or hastens maladaptive processes. Adverse childhood experiences, often known as ACEs, are early life stresses that individuals endure and are linked to the development of behavioural abnormalities and psychiatric problems in adulthood. Furthermore, there is evidence that people with early life stress have a more severe illness course and are less receptive to treatment for mood and anxiety disorders like depression.

Stress throughout early childhood is linked to a modification of the brain's developmental trajectory, which can result in long-lasting behavioural alterations, but the consequences of stress in adulthood can be temporary and reversible. Behaviour problems brought on by ELS exposure can start in adulthood or during childhood or adolescence.

A developing field of research, neuroscience, is expanding quickly. Neurology, psychiatry, and psychology are necessary for a deeper understanding of it. The purpose of this conference is to inform attendees of the most recent developments in the field of neuroscience education. The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Sumatera Utara is hosting the 6th International Conference on Neuroscience, Neurology, and Psychiatry (ICoNaP) 2023 with the theme "The impact of early life stress on the neuroscience field" for psychiatrists, neurologists, general practitioners, and other interested specialists.

Since 2018, ICoNAP has occurred annually. Speakers from many different nations are invited to the conference, both nationally and internationally. The committee has elected speakers from Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Australia, India, Thailand, the United States, France, and Malaysia over the years. This year's conference will be hosted virtually and will have speakers from Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, and Singapore.

Researchers and specialists in the fields of neuroscience, neurology, and psychiatry can exchange ideas, experiences, and insights during the conference. Case studies and articles will have the opportunity to be published in international publications, and 920 researchers and professionals have so far taken part in previous ICoNAPs. More than 100 articles and case studies have also been released.

THE 5th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEUROSCIENCE, NEUROLOGY, AND PSYCHIATRY 2022

Sumatera Utara

Medan, ID

August 4, 2022 – August 5, 2022

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The Virus was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of international concern regarding COVID-19 on January 30, 2020, and later declared it a pandemic on March 11, 2020. As of April 16, 2021, more than 138 million cases have been confirmed, with more than 2.98 million deaths attributed to COVID-19, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in history.

Recommended precautions include keeping your distance, wearing a face mask in public places, ventilating and filtering the air, washing your hands, covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing, disinfecting surfaces, and monitoring and isolating yourself from exposed or symptomatic people. Several vaccines have been developed and widely distributed since December 2020. Current treatments focus on managing symptoms, but work is underway to develop therapeutic drugs that can inhibit the virus. Authorities around the world have responded by imposing travel restrictions, lockdowns / quarantines, workplace hazard controls, and business closures. Many places have also been working to increase testing capacity and track contacts of infected people.

Neuroscience is an emerging branch of science that develops rapidly. It needs neurology, psychiatry, and psychology for us to understand it better. The aim of this conference is to educate and learn the current trends and research in neuroscience education. The 5th International Conference on Neuroscience, Neurology and Psychiatry (ICoNaP) 2022 is a conference held by The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara for psychiatrists, neurologists, general practitioners, and other interested specialists; the theme for this year is “Exploring the Neuroscientific Impact of Covid-19”.

ICoNAP has been held annually since 2018. The conference invites both national and international speakers from many countries. Throughout these years the committee has invoted various speakers from Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Australia, India, Thailand, the USA, France, and Malaysia. This year, we invite both national and international speakers from the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia and will be held as a virtual conference.

The conference serves as an opportunity for researchers and experts in neuroscience, neurology, and psychiatry to share their ideas, experiences, and insights. Articles and case reports will get a chance to be published in international journals. To this date, 920 researchers and experts have participated in previous ICoNAP. Additionally, more than 100 articles and case reports have been published.

This year the paper carries these various topics:

Empowering health resources after the pandemic

Recovering after the pandemic with better mental health

Cognition in neurology

Cytokine mechanism of schizophrenia, neurovascular disease and Covid-19

Genes in mental disorders

Sleep disturbance during the pandemic

Memory and Epilepsy

Other health-related topics

The Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sumatera Utara decided to hold the 5th ICoNaP international conference on 04-05 August 2022 for psychiatric specialists, neurologists, general practitioners, graduate and post-graduate students, and other interested specialists.
