Abstract

This paper aims to come across how structural features of conversational humour are associated to functions provided by humorous utterances and actions. Linguistically speaking, studying humour may give us prosperous information about society among us. Unfortunately, not all linguistic scholars argue that studying humour is an intelligent concept. Furtheremore, this paper seeks to examine the conversation of suburban community in one of the famous YouTube contents called Kontrakan Rempong by Warintil official. The data related with humour was gained from Pamer (episode 69). The method in this study uses Fairclough's model of CDA which examines the dimensions of text, in this case the GTVH theory is used, interpretation, and explanation (social practice). As the result, it is found that the perceptible behaviours of the residents, in particular, become the frequent topic of the conversations among the housewives in the community. The topic mainly centres around how members of a particular family conduct themselves in the community and how women as homemakers identify themselves as active members of the community. The targeted behaviours are generally concerned with being talkative, materialistic, discourteous and ostentatious, having an eccentric view of the world, and gossipmongers who spread rumours about someone's debt.
