Abstract


It is undeniable that language plays an essential role in all aspects of human life. The need for widespread use of language in line with technological advancements makes language become a complex one. Linguistics, as the science of language, must be able to uncover the uniqueness of language in delivering the message. Humor can be regarded as one of the unique ways of communicating ideas and delivering messages. This study is an attempt to analyze humor as one of the unique way of communicating ideas or delivering messages. The study is focused on how humor is created from linguistic perspective. The data for this study are taken from humors in Indonesian language and some local languages in Indonesia. From linguistic perspective, humors are created through language games by manipulating linguistic forms. Humors are also produced by creating the ambiguous meaning of one linguistic form.
