Abstract

Abstract. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important health problem in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) population, so prediction of CKD in HIV patients needs to be done. This study aims is to identify prevalence of CKD in HIV patients. This is a cross-sectional study, conducted from January-August 2017at Wahidin Sudirohusodo & Hasanuddin University Hospital Makassar.Subjectswere male and female, age 18-60 years old, diagnosedHIV based on positive anti-HIV testand willing to participate. CKD diagnosed if estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)<60 ml/min/1.73m² and/or microalbuminuria (MA) is found. CKD stage based on eGFRare divided into stage 1 ifeGFR ≥90 mL/min/1.73 m², stage 2 ifeGFR 60-89 mL/min/1.73 m², stage 3a if eGFR45-59 mL/min/1.73 m², stage 3b if eGFR 30-44 mL/min/1.73 m², stage 4 ifeGFR 15-29 mL/min/1.73 m² and stage 5 ifeGFR<15 mL/min/1.73 m² or undergoing dialysis/kidney transplant. Normoalbuminuria (NA) if albumin-creatinine ratio (ACR) <30 mg albumin/g creatinine, MA if ACR30-300 mg of albumin/g creatinine and macroalbuminuria if ACR> 300 mg albumin/g creatinine. Distribution of CKD showed 3 (3.5%) subjects with eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m². Based on CKD stage, 72 (83.7%) subjects in stage 1, 11 (12.8%) subjects in stage 2, 2 (2.3%) subjects in stage 3a and 1 (1.2%) subjects in stage 4. Based onACR, 33 (38.4%) subjects with MA.If all of the subjects were grouped according to MA criteria only, eGFR<60 mL/min/ 1.73 m² only and MA with eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m², we found 2 ( 2.3%) subjects with eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m²& NA, 1 (1.2%) subject with eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m² &MA, and 32 (37.2%) subjects with eGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m² &MA.The prevalence of CKD in Makassar HIV populations is still quite low.
