Health status of elderly based on DAL, cholesterol and uric acid profile in Medan city

Abstract


Health problems in the elderly come from the decline of body cells, so the function and the body endurance decreased as well as risk factors for the disease also increased. The purpose of this study was to determine the elderly health status in Community Health Center of Tuntungan Medan.  Health status includes measurement of daily activities living (DAL) and health checks include blood pressure, blood sugar level (BSL), cholesterol levels and uric acid level. The research design is descriptive with cross sectional approach. The population is the entire elderly population residing in the community health center of Tuntungan Medan which amounts to 55 people, the majority of elderly have a good level of independent as many 47 people (85.5%), majority of elderly are in the category of Hypertension stage I as many as 20 people (36.4%) with a mean systolic blood pressure level is 143 mmhg, most of them have BSL that exceeds normal as many as 42 people (76,4%) with BSL mean value is 177 mg/dL, uric acid levels in the high category as many as 34 people (61.98%) with a mean value of 7.0 mm / dL, majority have normal cholesterol levels as many as 43 people.
