Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common synovial joint disease found in the community. In the management of OA, until now limited only to overcome the pain, inflammation, and improvement of joint function with medication in the form of NSAIDs that have many side effects.Damage to cells due to the stimulus will free various mediators or substances inflamation, among others, histamine, bradykinin, kalidin, serotonin, prostaglandin, leukotrien and so on Sidaguri plant (Sidarhombifolia L) has anti-inflammatory activity by modulating prostaglandin biosynthesis by inhibition of arachidoniccycloosygenation through the active compound is alkaloid and ecdysteroid. We tested 50 patients divided into 2 groups, patients who get  meloxicam and sidaguri (n = 25) and patients who get  meloxicam and placebo groups (n = 25). Female patients were more than men in both groups (p = 0.107) and age in the meloxicam and placebo group was found to be mean of 58.92 ± 10.43 and in the meloxicam and sidaguri group with mean of 59.64 ± 11.39 (p = 0.817). There were significant changes in both groups before and after therapy, both with meloxicam and sidaguri or meloxicam and placebo with p-value =0.0001.
