Abstract
Abstract- Local multipoint distribution service (LMDS) system provides high bitrates services up to 40 Mbps operating in millimeter bands. The radio system can be employed as an infrastructure for surveillance applications. However, the LMDS implementation in a rainy environment faces transmission problems which degrade video quality. This paper examines samples of multi layer techniques in improving LMDS performance due to rain problems, including power and subscriber allocations, scheduling algorithms and a rateless code. The results show that PHY layer technique achieves up to 0.395 dB improvement, MAC layer gains at most 6.5 dB and application layer enhances the performance up to 1.17 dB.
